Paciencia Abiog

June 5, 1938 — April 8, 2023

Indianapolis

Paciencia “Pacing” Valencia Canlas was born in the Philippines in the provinces of Pampanga and had six siblings. She graduated with a degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from the University of the East. She then became a Certified Public Accountant and worked at the Central Bank of the Philippines, a prestigious government agency. She married Pedro “Pete” Queron Abiog in 1968 and had their first son in the Philippines a few years later. In 1972, she immigrated to the United States with a short stay in New York City and eventually settled in Cincinnati later that year.  She gave birth to two more boys in the following years. She raised her young children while working as an accountant at a local sporting goods store. She later transitioned to the University of Cincinnati, working there for almost two decades, and was able to provide college and graduate school education to her three boys.

After retirement from university, she continued to volunteer at St. Theresa Catholic Church, provided home care to elderly and helped new Filipino immigrants adjust to life in Cincinnati. Shortly after the death of husband Pete, she moved to Indianapolis to be closer to her son Joe. She lived at Little Sisters of the Poor St. Augustine Home for the last ten years.

On the morning of April 8, 2023, Pacing passed away peacefully in hospice at her assisted living center after visits from her siblings and children and surrounded by the nuns and staff that had taken care of her for the last decade. She is survived by her three sons: Jerry (Laura Hall), Joe, and Mike (Patricia Lee) and her granddaughter Alana.
