Phyllis June (Alton) Ruf, 93, of West Chester, OH passed away Thursday, June 10, 2021.

She was born June 16, 1927, in Parkersburg, WV, a daughter of the late Newton and Mary Ella (Hill) Alton.

Phyllis was a 1945 graduate of Parkersburg High School, Parkersburg, WV, attended Marietta College and graduated from Mountain State Business College.

She was a legal secretary for McCluer, Davis and McDougle Law firm; meal coordinator for the Meal For One Program at the Union Mission; Secretary for Acme, Fishing and Tool Co.; office manager for the Ohio Company, and retired as a Customer Service Representative from Legg Mason, Parkersburg, WV at the age of 80 in 2007.

She was formerly a 50+ year member of First Presbyterian Church, Parkersburg, WV, where she served as an elder, deacon, Sunday School superintendent, youth leader, choir member and soprano soloist. After moving to Ohio in 2014, she joined Crestview Presbyterian Church, West Chester, OH, where she also sang in the choir.

Phyllis was active in musical circles, played the piano and was a longtime member of the Parkersburg Choral Society. She was also a member of the James Wood Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Parkersburg.

She was married to the late Henry L. Ruf, Jr. “Bud” on January 6, 1950 in Parkersburg who preceded her in death in 2003.

Phyllis is survived by her children: Louis Ruf, West Chester, OH; Sarah Leon (John), Sharonville, OH; Stuart Ruf (Charlette), Madison, OH; James Ruf (Marianne), Pine, AZ and Eric Ruf (Jana Lee), Belington, WV. Grandchildren: Evan Leon (Carly), Mary Leon, Alycia Schreckengost (Eric), Emma Richmond (Tyler), Erynn Dixon (Tyler), Jesse Ruf and Anna Ruf. Step-grandchildren, Diane Flower (Michael) and Charles Blankenship (Jamie). Great grandchildren: Henry Leon, John Leon, Finnick Richmond and Asher Schreckengost. Step-great grandchildren: Christian O’Donnell, Aiden Blankenship, Matix Blankenship, Emma Campion and Brenden Flower. Three sisters-in-law: Sarah Christopher, Carol Jackson and Donna Shaver (Butch) and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Lois L. (Alton) Allman Farmer and one half-brother, Leslie H. Alton.

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 14, 2021, at Hodapp Funeral Home 8815 Cincinnati-Columbus Rd. (Rt. 42), West Chester, OH 45069 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at First Presbyterian Church, 1341 Juliana Street, Parkersburg, WV 26101 with Reverend Shawn Barkley from Crestview Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Vaughan-Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth Street, Parkersburg, WV and one hour prior to service Tuesday at the church.
