Polly B. Staples

Polly B. Staples, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away after loving care at Good Samaritan Hospital on April 14, 2023 at the age of 60.   She is survived by her mother, Grace Staples, who was with her at her passing, her two children, Corey Hager and Shelby Hager, grandson, Orion Hager, brother, Jeffrey Staples, and several cousins.  She was preceded in death by her father, Seth P. Staples.  

A lover of animals, she leaves her seven rescued pets who she often credited, along with her daughter, as her comforters and nurses during the past five years of declining health.   A performer from her teens and a songwriter whose known works included “The Cicada Song”, she enjoyed many long friendships forged in the music community and played many benefits.   Known for her smile and sense of humor, she was also whole-hearted in any project she undertook and won many accolades in her workplaces.  She once learned very basic American Sign Language in a week to care for a deaf child, temporarily.   She opened her home many times to temporarily homeless friends of her children where they enjoyed her passion for cooking.

Cremation by Hodapp Funeral Home will precede a funeral and celebration of life that will be held April 23, 2023 at 3:30 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, College Hill, 5501 Hamilton Ave. at Belmont Ave.  There will be no prior visitation but a reception will follow the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Found House Interfaith Housing Network (a shelter for homeless families), 990 Nassau St., Cincinnati, OH 45206 or the animal rescue shelter of your choice.
