Rebecca (Becky) Sue Nutter Duke, the oldest child of Kenneth and Janet Nutter, born in Charleston, WV on July 31, 1948, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, January 18, 2023. An active high school student at DuPont High School, Becky, an all-state band member and member of the National Honor Society, then received the Bachelor of Arts in Education from Trevecca Nazarene University. She taught middle school science and she also taught students who required home instruction, but Becky was the consummate homemaker that enjoyed sewing, decorating, wallpapering, building, designing, and gardening—there was very little that she wouldn’t attempt!
Becky also loved God and missions. Organizing a prayer-walk of the 45246 zip-code, she left a Jesus Video and a bag of microwave popcorn at each home. During that effort, she learned of the increasing Hispanic population in the region and so she began to explore how her congregation, Springdale Church of the Nazarene (SNC), could minister to that population. Becky and her husband, William Marshall Duke, who wed July 27, 1969, humbly served in leadership roles at Springdale Church of the Nazarene, they served Nazarene Global Ministries as short-term missions volunteers in Russia, they also assisted with Sunday School Ministries workshops for churches across the USA/Canada Nazarene Region. One of Becky’s personal enjoyments was to sing alto with SNC’s choir. She enjoyed employment in the operation of Meals on Wheels through Maple Knoll Village. Becky also put her heart and soul into situations when a caregiver of others was needed.
Becky is survived by William Marshall Duke, her husband of 53+ years, daughters Amy Elizabeth (Bryan) Shelton and Emily Ann (Brian) Schmidt, four grandchildren, Levi Bennett and Lucas Shelton, and Jay Marshall and Eleanor Schmidt. She is also survived by siblings Roger Nutter, Eric Hodges, and Tara West. She was preceded in death by her dad and mom, Kenneth and Janet Nutter, her stepfather Lowell Hodges, and her sister, Anne Carver.
Visitation is at Springdale Church of the Nazarene, 11177 Springfield Pike, Cincinnati, Ohio 45246 on Saturday, February 18th, 2023, 11 AM-1 PM, the time of Becky’s Homegoing Service. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorials be made to Springdale Church of the Nazarene Missions, 11177 Springfield Pike, Cincinnati, Ohio 45246 or to Queen City Hospice, 4605 Duke Drive, Suite 220, Mason, Ohio 45040.
