Retha Gayle Johnson

Retha Gayle Johnson, affectionately known as Gayle, was born on January 12, 1944, in Ashland, Kentucky. She left this world peacefully on July 12, 2025, surrounded by love at Traditions of West Chester, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Gayle will be remembered as a beacon of warmth, caring for all those fortunate enough to cross her path. A loving and nurturing soul, she found immense joy in ensuring everyone was fed and felt welcome in her home, often taking on the role of gracious hostess with great enthusiasm. Her engaging personality and bright spirit made her an instant friend to many, as she poured kindness and affection unconditionally upon her family and friends.

Throughout her life, Gayle embraced a variety of hobbies that brought her joy. She found solace in gardening, where her nurturing nature thrived alongside blooming flowers. Reading became another passion, opening vast worlds of imagination and adventure. In those moments of quiet reflection, one could often find her savoring hot tea with extra sugar—a simple pleasure that marked her gentle spirit.

Gayle leaves behind her devoted husband of thirty years, Robert Johnson, who cherished every moment spent together. She was a loving mother to Floyd Wayne Adkins, Patrick Lee Adkins and his wife, Cynthia Ruth Wilson-Adkins; their children, Tammi Cook, Amanda Adkins, and Tiffany Matthews; Chester Ray Adkins and his daughter Faith; and stepdaughter Michelle Kleinmann, her husband Mike, along with their children, Madisen and Wyatt.

As the sun sets on her remarkable journey, we find comfort in the countless memories she created, the love she so freely gave, and the lives she profoundly touched. Gayle’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her spirit will continue to shine brightly through the love she instilled in those around her. She will be deeply missed, yet forever remembered with fondness and gratitude.
