Dr. Richard Thomas Bennett (Dick) passed away peacefully on October 10th, 2023, at the age of 93. He was born in Trenton, NJ on January 7, 1930. He graduated from Yale University in 1948 and earned his PHD in Physical Organic Chemistry from Rutgers University in 1954. He married Bertha Wilson from Houston, DE on January 24th, 1958. He and his family lived in Wilmington, DE, Morris Plains NJ, Toledo, OH and Princeton, NJ and enjoyed summers in Avon, NJ in a summer family home. He had a long successful business career and retired as President of Congoleum in 1988. He loved golf, bridge, fishing and traveling. He and his wife took over 50 cruises. He traveled to all 50 states and 38 countries. He and his wife lived in Naples, Florida until his wife’s illness in 2015 where they relocated to West Chester, OH to be closer to family.
Dick was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Bertha, his daughter Sandra Bennett Barone and his parents, George, and Gladys Bennett. He is survived by 3 of his children, Richard (Rick) Bennett, Terri Cheney (Steve) and David Bennett (Sue) and 7 grandchildren, John Barone (Kate), Andrew Barone (Laura), Anthony Barone, Kayla Macklin, Katherine (Katie) Cheney, Brittany Bennett, and Tyler Bennett and one great granddaughter.
Dick embraced life and enjoyed it to the fullest. We know he is dancing again with his wife, daughter, and mother in glorious heaven. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 4th, at 10:00 AM with a reception to follow at the at Saint Anne Episcopal Church, 6461 Tylersville Rd, West Chester, OH 45069 to celebrate a life well lived. Any gifts or remembrances may be made in his name to Saint Anne Episcopal Church.
