Richard Carl

April 19, 1952 — February 14, 2024

Richard “Rick” G. Carl Jr., 71, of West Chester, OH died Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati, OH.

Rick was born April 19, 1952 in Wheeling, WV, the son of the late Richard G. and Stella (Vossen) Carl. Following graduation from Wheeling High School he served in the U.S. Army in Stuttgart, Germany.  After returning home from the Army he met Rebecca (Becky) S. Miller.  They married in 1975 in Sistersville, WV.  The couple moved to Columbus, OH where Rick attended the Ohio Institute of Technology and graduated with a B.S. in software engineering.  After graduation, he was hired by Honeywell in St. Petersburg, FL where he worked on the Centaur Missile. He also worked with ITT in Delaware, Ohio and Advanced Robotics in Columbus, Ohio. He eventually was hired by GE Fanuc in Charlottesville, VA and retired from the General Electric Company, locally, after 28 years as a Global Internet Security Architect.

Rick loved to travel. His favorite places were the Outer Banks, NC and the Great Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg, TN.  Rick was always the one to brighten the mood with a predictable pun. He was also a pillar of strength in a tough moment. He was well loved and respected by his friends and family.

Surviving are his wife, Becky (Rebecca) Carl of Cincinnati, OH; his brother Larry Carl of Wheeling, WV; two daughters, Anna Carl of Cincinnati and Lara (Brennan) McKone of Dover, DE; three grandsons, Julian and Jackson Haskell and Breccan McKone; a sister-in-law Sarah (John) Dunleavy of Denver, IA;  two nieces   Amy and Joanna Dunleavy; and two nephews Daniel and Ian Dunleavy.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 12 Noon to 5:00 p.m. at the residence of Becky Carl.

Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
