Funeral Service
Robert J. Shepard III, a man whose life was marked by dedication, talent, and an open heart, passed away on March 23, 2026, in his beloved hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. Born on December 12, 1951, in Cincinnati, Robby— as he was affectionately known—was a soul who touched the lives of many through his unyielding spirit, his music, and his service to his country and community.
Robby’s journey was distinguished by his proud service as an engineer in the Army, having been drafted in 1970. His commitment and skill were visible not only in his military service but also in his lifelong work building iron structures that served the needs of many. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he possessed a profound love for nature and life’s simple pleasures. Whether tending to his garden, riding his bike, or working in his herbology lab, he embraced every moment with passion. A lover of good old Southern music, Robby was frequently found with his guitar in hand, pouring his soul into song, or quietly enjoying tunes on his ever-present Walkman.
Robby was an alumnus of Princeton high school, a testament to his brilliance and dedication to learning. His intellect matched his warm personality; he was recognized as an absolutely brilliant individual with an open heart—a man who was not only musically gifted but also known as one of the finest babysitters anyone could ask for. His love of children was evident in the joy he found watching them learn and grow, a true reflection of his generous spirit.
He was deeply patriotic, loving the USA and all things that represented his enduring commitment to his nation, including his admiration for President Trump. His fondness for nature extended to bird watching, hiking trails, and enjoying the great outdoors in his Jeep. Robby’s soul was intertwined with the music, the land, and the people he cherished.
Robby leaves behind a loving family that mourns his loss but celebrates the legacy of love and care he bestowed upon them. He is survived by his sisters Caren Whitlock and Tina Hail, brothers Mark Shepard and Drew Shepard, brother-in-law Raymond Whitlock, and a wide circle of nieces and nephews including Caren Spivey, Johnny Adams, Anthony Vanover, Becky Phillips, Daniel McKenzie, Christy McCulley, Michael Shepard, Ashley Shepard, Mary Shepard, Jennifer Shepard, Nikki Shepard, Stormy Bonea, and Sky Spivey. His cousins Cathy Evers, David Evers, and Barry Evers also carry forward his memory.
Robby was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Mary-Alice Evers and Robert Shepard II; his brothers Scotty Shepard; his nephews Christian Spivey and Zachary Whitlock; as well as Judy Shepard, Richard Harvey, George Evers Jr., and Janice Evers.
Loved by all who knew him as the best dad, uncle, brother, friend, and cousin one could ask for, Robby’s kindness was epitomized by his generosity—willing to give you the shirt off his back. His favorite activities, passions, and the love he held for his family and friends ensure that his spirit will remain alive in the hearts of those he touched. As he would have wished, he never gave up, always striving to be the best version of himself.
A visitation will be held at Hodapp Funeral Homes - Carthage in Cincinnati, Ohio, on March 27, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at the same location from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
