Obituary

Russell Carroll, a beloved father, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, at the age of 98, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was surrounded by his loving family, embodying the warmth and laughter he shared with everyone he met throughout his long and joyful life.

Born on December 25, 1927, Russell's life was characterized by a remarkable capacity to find joy even in the simplest of moments. The cornerstone of his life was his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom he gladly served all of his days.  He graduated from Wilmington College and Southern Baptist Seminary, where he fostered his deep faith and commitment to teaching others. For many years, and as recently as December 2025, Russell served as a substitue Sunday School teacher at Montgomery Community Church, where his engaging humor, genuine kindness, and servant's heart endeared him to many.

Russell's personality shone brightly in every aspect of his life. He was known for his infectious laughter, often cracking jokes and laughing before finishing the punchline. His generous spirit radiated through his relationships, as he constantly thought of others, making him a cherished friend. He enjoyed breakfast with friends every Friday morning, a tradition he upheld for over fifteen years.

In addition to his strong sense of community, Russell was a man of many interests. He enjoyed playing spider solitaire and jigsaw puzzles right up until a few weeks before his passing. In his later years, he discovered a love for dancing, which not only brought him joy but also introduced him to Shirley Ekvall. Their companionship brought him happiness for eleven wonderful years, during which he formed special bonds with her children, Brad and Valli.

Russell's family mourns the loss of a patriarch whose love and laughter will echo through their lives forever. He is survived by his stepson Rick Hazen (Karen), stepdaughters Sue Neighbor and Nancy Burton (Tim), and daughter Amy Fuller. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Joseph Neighbor, Jeremy Neighbor, Lindsay McKibben (Kirk), Erik Hazen, Kelsey Stevenson (Scott), Emily Burton, Christopher Burton, Zachary Fuller (Molly), and Leanne Bundrant (Lawson). He was a proud great-grandfather to several great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

He is reunited with his beloved parents, four brothers, and his cherished wife of 49 years, Mary Carroll, in eternal peace.

As we remember Russell Carroll, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with laughter, love, and an unwavering commitment to serve others. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him, reminding us to embrace life with humor, generosity, and above all, love.

A celebration of life will take place in the future
