Beloved husband of Carolyn Ruth (nee Kunz) for 67 years. Loving father of Steven Colburn, David (Crystal) Colburn, Gary (Cindy) Colburn, Sheri Adkins and the late Kenneth Colburn (Colleen). Dear grandfather of Sam Colburn II, Steven Colburn, Cameron Smith, Brett (Jennifer) Colburn, Derek Adkins, Allison Colburn, and Clara Adkins. Great-grandfather of Josie Ruth Colburn and Baby Colburn due Feb. 2026.
Sam attended Augustana College from 1954-1956 and went on to attend Missouri School of Mines from 1956-1958. He earned a degree in Chemical Engineering and was employed by US Industrial Chemicals from 1960-1994.
Sam gave his life to Jesus on August 17, 1958 at Overland Missionary Baptist Church in Overland, MO, just a few weeks after marrying the love of his life on August 2, 1958.
Sam proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960 and was assigned to Army Rocket and Guided Missile Agency in Huntsville, Alabama.
Sam had a quiet, humble demeanor and a sharp sense of humor. He took his service to the church as a privilege and an honor, acting as a deacon, Sunday School Director, softball coach and member of the choir. He influenced countless lives and showed them the way to Jesus.
Sam enjoyed bowling, fishing and grilling his famous pork chops. He was an avid Cardinals baseball and Kentucky basketball fan.
He enjoyed being Grandpa and, along with His beloved Carolyn, he supported the grandkids at various sporting events, choir concerts and academic awards. He valued his relationship with Jesus and his family above all else.
Loving unconditionally will be his lasting legacy.
