Sandra L. Bothwell

November 1, 1947 — June 11, 2023

Mason

Sandra L Bothwell, aged 75, passed away peacefully with family and friends at her side, on June 11, 2023 at Madeira Healthcare Center (Madeira, OH).

Sandra was born on November 1, 1947 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Archie and Catherine West.  She was the youngest of four children and grew up in Mason, Ohio.  While attending Mason schools, she participated in many different activities, including:  Band, Chorus, Debate Team and National Honor Society.  She also joined Future Nurses of America, inspiring what would eventually become a life-long career in the field.  She graduated from Mason High School in 1965.

After high school, she chose to pursue her passion for nursing and enrolled at the Jewish Hospital School of Nursing (Cincinnati, OH).  She graduated from nursing school in 1968.  For 44 years, she upheld the pledge she took at graduation to “devote herself to the welfare of those committed to her care” until she retired from nursing at Jewish Hospital in 2012 at the age of 65.

While attending nursing school, Sandra met her future husband, William 'Bill' Bothwell.  Soon after graduating nursing school, she and Bill were married at the First Baptist Church of Mason, on June 22, 1968.  Together they had two children, Bill and Ben.  Family was important to her and she took great pride in her responsibility as a parent.  She worked hard and made sacrifices to raise both boys, doing her best to ensure they had everything they needed.

In her spare time, Sandra enjoyed baking, gardening and sewing.  She became well-known in the community for her baking skills, making everything from cookies for her boys to share with classmates at school, to elaborate wedding cakes for family and friends.  Sandra was also an avid collector of Longaberger baskets and other products the company sold.  Sandra enjoyed traveling and experiencing the world, including mission trips to the Caribbean Island of Nevis and Israel.  She also enjoyed several trips with her sisters to memorable places, such as Alaska and Ireland.

Faith was also very important to Sandra.  A member of the First Baptist Church of Mason, she was very active and donated her time to volunteer and charity programs.  Holidays were especially busy, baking and preparing crafts the church would deliver to local nursing homes. She was a loving and caring person, always thinking of others first.  She loved to read her Bible and pray for and with others.

Sandra is preceded in death by her father Archie, her mother Catherine, and her sister Sylvia.

Sandra is survived by her sons Bill and Ben, her sisters Betty and Naomi, her granddaughter Eden, her ex-husband Bill, her beloved cat Remmington, and many others in her extended family who knew and loved her.
