Shelby Jane Hager

Shelby Jane Hager, 31, of Cincinnati passed to her heavenly home on October 10, 2023.   The daughter of Robert Hager, Jr. and the late Polly Staples, she was known for her generous and caring spirit as well as her creative talents.  The latter were evident in her whimsical art works in various media which she shared with others and her gift for rap and song writing.   A loyal friend and hard-working employee, she also cared for her mother and seven rescued dogs and cats.  As time allowed, she participated in Black Lives Matter events and the Interfaith Hospitality Network (family shelter) through Grace Episcopal Church where she had been baptized in 2017.

A very spiritual person, Shelby was often the first to recognize and try to alleviate a need or hardship both in friends and strangers in whatever way she could.  She was proud of her 6 drug-free years but was ultimately overwhelmed by the loss of her mother, increasingly hostile environments and mental illness.  She is sorely missed by many friends and relatives who supported her struggle.

In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by her maternal grandfather Seth Staples, and paternal grandparents Robert Sr. and Catherine Hager.  She is survived by her father, brother Corey Hager, half-sister Rhiauna Hager, grandmother Grace Staples, uncle Jeffrey Staples and nephew, Orion Hager.  Also aunts and uncles Rick (Cathy) Hager, Roseann (Ted) Forbes, Randy (Angie) Hager and cousins Teddy Forbes, Katie Orloski, Amanda Fink, Nickolaus Hager, Alaina Hager, Dalton Hager, Holly Forbes, Colton Orloski and Peyton Orloski.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, October 19, at 11:00 AM at Grace Episcopal Church, 5501 Hamilton Ave., in College Hill.  A display of memorabilia and a light lunch will follow.  Interment of cremains will take place at the convenience of family at Spring Grove Cemetery.
