Shirley L. Roth, 95, died May 12th after a long illness.
Shirley L. Roth, 95, went to her eternal home May 12 th , 2026, after a long and active life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L Roth, her parents, Frederick E. Lunt and Margaret C. Lunt, and brother Frederick E. Lunt Jr. Survived by two nieces, Cindy (John) Carter, Carolyn Jayne Lunt, and nephew, Mark (Anne) Lunt as well as nine great- nieces and nephews. She is the granddaughter and last immediate family member of Dr. Ernest Lunt, founder and conductor of the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh.
Shirley was a graduate of Grove City College with a BA in English and Speech, a school she continued to serve with passion throughout her life. She held roles as President of the Coraopolis/Sewickley branch of the American Association of University Women, serving on the Alumni Council, and as president of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Women's Club of Grove City College. Having earned her master’s degree in counseling from Duquesne University, she invested in her students for 34 years at Moon Junior/Senior High School. Her roles included teaching High School English and Speech and Junior High Guidance Counselor. Shirley was a member of Steel Cities Region of Sports Car Club of America where she served as Registrar for the races in Maryland and Ohio. She was an avid golfer - serving on the board of the Women's Golf Association of Western Pennsylvania and a member of the Montour Heights County Club where she played on the Women's Golf Team. She also served as chairman of the MHCC Women's Golf Association. Shirley’s desire to serve others wasn’t limited to humans, her love of dogs was renowned. She was active in dog rescues every weekend, driving them across state lines away from "kill" shelters in Ohio and Kentucky. She also spent time in Mississippi helping rescue animals after hurricane "Katrina." Shirley spent her final years in Cincinnati living with her niece Cindy (John) Carter, enjoying time with her extended family, and welcoming 10 great-great nieces and nephews. Shirley’s servant-hearted nature, her sharp wit, and engaging storytelling will be greatly missed. Shirley will be buried beside her beloved husband Jack in Homewood Cemetery, Pittsburgh, PA.
