Steve J. Magocsi, was born at Deaconess Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, and passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, at the age of 80.
Steve entered the world prematurely, weighing less than five pounds. He remained in the hospital for nearly three months, cradled gently in the palm of a nurse's hand during family visits. From those delicate beginnings, he grew into a man of towering presence- both physically, at 6'3", and in the lives of those who knew him.
A devoted brother, uncle, teacher, and friend, Steve lived a life enriched by faith, intellect, and a deep appreciation for the arts. He spent many years shaping young minds as a high school teacher, leaving behind a legacy of curiosity, compassion, and quiet wisdom.
Steve is survived by his beloved sister, Marian Carnevali and cousins, Angela Westerman, and Angela's husband, Bob. He was a cherished uncle to Lydia Allevato and her husband Edson; Joe Carnevali; Tony Carnevali and his wife Janet; and Silvia Martinez and her husband Kevin. He was also a cherished cousin to Angie Blinn and husband, Tom; Robert Westerman; and John Westerman and wife, Terry. In addition to his nieces and nephews and cousins, Steve was loved by many children and grandchildren across the extended family, each of whom brought joy to his life and will carry his memory forward.
Though separated by more than 3,000 miles, Steve and Marian remained close, sharing frequent conversations about movies, politics, and family- topics that lit up his thoughtful spirit. A lover of cinema, theater, and visual art, Steve found joy in the creative world. From his ninth-story apartment overlooking the city of Cincinnati, he delighted in watching fireworks burst across the skyline— a simple pleasure that reflected his love of beauty and wonder.
Steve's Catholic faith was a quiet but steady presence in his life. We entrust him now to God's eternal care, confident in the promise of resurrection and the peace of Christ.
May the angels lead him into paradise, and may perpetual light shine upon him.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Francis De Sales 1600 Madison Rd. on Monday, September 29th at 11:00AM.
Steve will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery, in the family plot.
In lieu of flowers, Masses may be offered for the repose of his soul, or donations may be made to the Cincinnati Fine Arts Fund or Thomas More College, causes close to his heart.
