Steven Lamont Jennings

November 15, 1968 — March 13, 2022

Steven Lamont Jennings, a fun carefree soul passed away after 53 years of defying the odds. He was born on November 15, 1968 to Samuel L. Jennings and Wilma R. Jennings (Hatmaker). Wilma was Steven’s main caregiver until his needs outgrew what she could provide him at home, a decision not made easily by his mother. Steven moved to Bastin Home in Williamsburg, OH which was a Monday through Friday program and he spent the weekends at home. At 15-years-old Steven made another transition to a permanent facility that provided 24/7 care in Springfield, OH where Steven graduated at 22-years-old. After graduation he was moved to Takoda Trails in Fairfield, OH on May 13, 1994 to be closer to family and lived there the rest of his life. Through the years at Takoda Trails he went to workshops where he supervised his friends. Someone had to be in charge! He spent many hours swimming, swinging and eating. His favorite thing was pop. Though Steven wasn’t very vocal he did know to say Mom, Papal, Pat and Josi. Steven was an avid collector of Barrel of Monkeys, puzzle pieces, strings and sticks. He loved music as long as it wasn’t country and Easter egg hunts were anticipated as well as opening gifts of any kind at Christmas. These things brought him great joy. Steven peacefully succumbed to kidney failure leaving behind his mother, Wilma Jennings, father, Sam Jennings, brother, Eric Jennings (Amy), nephew and namesake Seth Lamont and niece Josi, plus many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends at Takoda Trails along with all of the providers who cared for him over the years. On behalf of Steven and his family, we appreciate all who took the time to know him and love him.  A memorial visitation will be held Friday, March 18, 2022, at Hodapp Funeral Home 6410 Cincinnati-Dayton Rd. Liberty Twp., OH 45044 from 5 p.m. until the time of a Memorial Service at 7 p.m. Steven’s final resting place will be Cumberland View Cemetery in Jacksboro, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Friends of Takoda Trails, 350 Kolb Dr., Cincinnati, OH 45014
