Obituary

Susan Marie (Koenig) Geary, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, devoted nurse, and woman of unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2026, at the age of 72.

To know Susan was to know kindness, compassion, and unconditional love. A nurse by profession and a caregiver at heart, she spent her life putting the needs of others before her own. Whether caring for patients, supporting family and friends, or simply being there when someone needed her, Susan gave freely of herself without expecting anything in return. Her generous heart, deep Catholic faith, and devotion to those she loved were the foundation of the beautiful life she lived.

In May 1975, Susan married her beloved husband, Patrick Geary. Together, they shared 35 years of marriage, building a life centered around love and family until Patrick’s passing in July 2010. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Brian, Tricia, and Suzanne, who remained a central part of Susan’s life.

Above all, Susan treasured her family. She found her greatest happiness in spending time with family and friends, sharing laughter, creating memories, and bringing joy to those around her. She also loved baking and was especially known for her delicious cakes and Christmas cookies. Her baking was one of the many ways she shared her love, creating special memories and traditions that her family will cherish for years to come.

In 2012, Susan moved in with her daughter Suzanne and son-in-law Ben, becoming an irreplaceable part of their family. Her beloved grandchildren, Titus and Kenzie, had the extraordinary gift of growing up with their “AmMaw” by their side from the day they were born. She was so much more than a grandmother; she was part of their everyday lives, sharing in their milestones, celebrations, laughter, and countless ordinary moments that became treasured memories. The special bond they shared and the unconditional love she gave them will forever be part of who they are.

Susan dedicated her entire professional career to nursing, a calling she absolutely loved. Caring for others was never simply a job; it was who she was at her core. Her compassion, kindness, and desire to help others extended far beyond her work and touched the lives of countless people throughout her lifetime.

Susan’s Catholic faith was a guiding light throughout her life. She faced life’s challenges with remarkable courage, determination, and trust in God. During her three-year battle with pancreatic cancer, she demonstrated extraordinary strength and resilience. Although her journey was not always easy, her illness never defined the beautiful life she lived or the love she shared with others.

Susan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Patrick Geary; her parents, William and Gladys Koenig; and her brothers, Terry and Richard Koenig.

She is survived by her loving children, Brian (Kellee) Geary, Tricia Geary, and Suzanne (Ben) Casteel; her cherished grandchildren, Titus and Kenzie Casteel; and her siblings, James (Sue) Koenig, Diane (Norman) Bolling, and Daniel (Beverly) Koenig. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Susan spent her life caring for others, offering comfort, sharing love, and putting those around her first. Her greatest legacy will not be measured by the years she lived, but by the countless lives she touched and the love she leaves behind. Her family will forever be grateful for the extraordinary blessing of being loved by her, for the memories they shared, and for the example of kindness, strength, and faith she gave them. Although her presence will be missed beyond words, her love will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her. A lifetime with Susan would never have been long enough, but the love she gave will last forever.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hodapp Funeral Home, 6410 Cincinnati Dayton Road, Liberty Township, OH 45044. A Nurse Honor Guard tribute honoring Susan’s dedication and service to the nursing profession will take place immediately following visitation, at approximately 7:10 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8815 E. Kemper Road, Cincinnati, OH 45249. Committal services will immediately follow Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

IN CELEBRATION OF SUSAN’S LIFE — PLEASE WEAR BRIGHT COLORS

In keeping with Susan’s personal wishes, family and friends are encouraged to wear bright, cheerful colors rather than traditional dark funeral attire. While her passing brings great sadness to those who love her, Susan wanted this gathering to be a celebration of the beautiful life she lived, the love she shared, and the joy she brought to others.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Susan’s memory to:
