Thomas R. Keim, born April 23, 1948, in Cincinnati, Ohio, departed this life peacefully on May 19, 2026, leaving behind a legacy marked by devotion, humility, and constancy that touched all who knew him. His journey through life was one marked with quiet strength, generosity, and an loving commitment to family, friends, and his dogs.
Tom’s early years started in Reading, Ohio, where he graduated from Reading High School in 1966. It was there, as a young man, that he began to forge his lifelong craft in butchering, apprenticing at the corner butcher shop in his hometown. This humble beginning grew into a honorable career spanning over four decades with the Kroger Company at multiple locations—Tri-County, Middletown, Forest Park, Delhi, and Northgate—where he served as both Meat Cutter and Head Meat Cutter.
In 1968, Tom answered his country’s call when drafted into the United States Army, becoming a Vietnam War soldier. He bravely volunteered to extend his service with a second tour, ultimately receiving several medals and decorations in recognition of his valor and dedication.
Tom’s character was a tapestry woven from traits of selflessness, generosity, thoughtfulness, and resilience. Never the one with the loud voice, his presence radiated a steady comfort—calm, reliable, unassuming. A man of practical nature and well-honed organization, Tom’s quiet smiles, helping hands and honest counsel were gifts cherished by his family and friends. His love for simple pleasures—cold draft beers and pretzels in his earlier days, followed with Lay’s potato chips and a cold pop in his later days—spoke to a man who found joy in life’s modest offerings.
His heart was big and kind, extending love and care not only to his family but also to his beloved dogs, Ricky and Izzy. Tom was a sports enthusiast; he proudly rooted for The Reds and The Bengals, investing in each NFL season and all the weekly football games. Equally passionate about the weather, he was the family’s unofficial meteorologist, faithfully tuned to the Weather Channel, ever ready to share timely warnings of impending storms. He was always down for LaRosa’s, Skyline, Arby’s, or Wendy’s, always willing to buy if you were willing to go get it.
Tom was, above all, a consummate provider and protector, dedicating his life to the happiness and stability of those he loved. His proudest accomplishment was his unwavering commitment to his family—working tirelessly to support and nurture them with boundless love and steadfast effort.
His warm spirit ensured that holidays were never overlooked. Tom’s skills with costume creator made Halloween celebrations a time of delight. No holiday went unmarked; Easter Baskets, St. Nick stockings, and Valentine Treat bags were lovingly prepared with care. Summer time saw him man the charcoal grill, serving an abundance of meats—including, on occasion, frog legs—that brought joy and nourishment to gatherings large and small. Christmas Eve was a special occasion, graced by his signature dishes: weenies, shrimp, and the delightful baked goods platters baked with Norma.
Since the late summer of 2025, Tom was embraced by the welcoming community of Central Parke, where exceptional individuals provided him with compassionate care and companionship. There, he forged new friendships, enjoyed hearty meals, and engaged in lively conversations that added a rich chapter to his final months. His boss, caregivers, and nurses found joy in his quick wit and banter, and he, in turn, cherished and reciprocated their kindness. Affinity Hospice further enriched his days with dedicated care that upheld the dignity and respect he deserved.
Tom’s family include his loving children, Amy Keim Wagner & son-in-law Daniel and Christopher Keim; treasured grandchildren—Tess, Thomas, and Jack Wagner; and his devoted sisters, Judith Barbeau (married to Ernest), Karol Keim Wilking, and Mary Keim Duff. He is also fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. His heart once shared a loving connection with Norma Singerman, his cherished friend and life partner, whose memory he held dear. Also preceding him in rest are his parents, Harry "Bud" Keim and Alma Bittner Keim, and his brother, Richard Keim White.
Tom's life was a testament to enduring devotion, quiet dignity, and the profound impact of a good heart. Although he has gone to Heaven, his consistent presence, thoughtful nature, and gentle strength endure in the hearts of all fortunate enough to have known him. We mourn his passing but celebrate the abundant life he led—a life that was, in every measure, noble and true.
Memorial Visitation will be held at Hodapp Funeral Home, 6410 Cincinnati Dayton Rd., Liberty Twp., OH 45044, on Monday, June 22, 2026 from 10:30 AM until time of Funeral Service at 11:30 AM. Burial of ashes will follow at Dayton National Cemetery at 1 PM.
