Velma Mae Pingleton

Velma Mae Croley Pingleton, age 90 of Lynchburg, OH left us to be with her beloved Savior on December 27, 2022. She passed peacefully at home in the loving care of her family and Hospice of Hope for Ohio. Her last 4 years held increasing memory and mobility challenges. She rapidly declined over her last month following a probable stroke event. She did insist on hanging on through Christmas which allowed the many grandchildren, great grandchildren and other family to visit and say their final farewells on her favorite holiday. (It was noted that she had once changed the diapers of all but a few who visited that day!)

 

Velma was born March 12, 1932 in Lynch, KY, Hazard County to Ralph Edward and Cuba Lowry Croley. She was the youngest daughter and the 7th of 8 children. She was raised in Rockcastle County KY and graduated from Brodhead High School. She married Robert H. Pingleton on January 1, 1950, her husband of 68 years. They lived in Richmond, IN before moving to Springdale, OH for 12 years, West Chester for 35 years and finally moving to Lynchburg, OH in 2007.

 

Velma was a devoted mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and Christian.  She loved anyone we loved, including our pets. She was a good forgiver, an amazing listener and was never heard to gossip or utter an unkindness.  In her younger motherhood she competed in a bowling league and collected several trophies.  She somehow found time to work for the IRS as a data entry specialist for over 20 years and loved carpooling with friends. She was an active member of Tri County Baptist Church in Springdale and West Chester for over 40 years.  She appreciated the music of Elvis, Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass, Neal Diamond, Kenny Rogers and hymns. We have many memories of her gardening, canning, cooking wonderful meals and hosting the family for holidays. She faithfully remembered birthdays, sent cards and kept in touch with loved ones. She delighted in baking, sharing and eating desserts. In retirement she took many vacations with her husband, grandchildren & children. She committed her life to care for her husband, mother, children, grandchildren and other family. 

 

In Lynchburg she fully enjoyed living next door to her son, Gary, his wife Teresa and their children Zachary and Rachel. Gary and Teresa were dedicated to caring for every need of Velma and lived with her in her widowhood for the last 4 years of her life. During her last year Gary even developed a workout routine for her including walking inclines on the treadmill.

 

Velma is preceded in death by her husband, Robert, 4 brothers, Orbey, Coyt, Paul and J.D. Croley, and 3 sisters, Doris Good, Georgia Reiff, and Delores Greenburg.  She is survived by her 3 children, Gary (Teresa) Pingleton of Lynchburg, Rhonda Pingleton of Centerville, Linda (Andrew) Stoothoff of West Chester; 6 grandchildren, Jason, Cassie, Mason, Grace, Zachary (Meranda) and Rachel (Doug); 3 great grandchildren, Victoria, Kaylee and Zoe; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. 

 

Visitation will be held at Hodapp Funeral Home, 6410 Cincinnati Dayton Rd., Liberty Twp., OH 45044 on Tuesday 1/3/23 from 11:00am until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon. Interment will take place at Butler County Memorial Park in Ohio.
