Wanda Smith, a beloved figure in her community and a cherished member of her family, passed away on June 4, 2025, at the age of 83. She was born on October 26, 1941, and led a life marked by dedication, loyalty, and kindness.
Wanda's career was as profound as it was long-lasting; she devoted over 60 years to her work at Hilltop, where she joined right out of high school. This organization became her second family, and her presence was felt deeply by all who worked alongside her. As the secretary of the corporation and executive assistant to both John Steele Jr. and John Steele Sr., she was known for her exceptional organizational skills, which earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout the years.
Academically gifted, Wanda graduated as the valedictorian of her class, and her talents shone brightly when she won a spelling bee in her senior year. Those who knew her recognized her reserved yet unassuming nature, coupled with a warm heart and a deep devotion to her loved ones and animals alike.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Wanda was an active and engaging member of her local clubs. She was active in the antique club, the garden club, as well as the historical society, where she shared her passions and interests with her neighbors and friends. A love for bowling added a playful and spirited side to her personality, showcasing her vibrant approach to life.
Wanda leaves behind a loving family that includes her dear niece, Julie Moore (Jim), and her devoted nephews, Brian Fields (Kera) and Greg Fields (Sharon). She shared many memories with her loved ones such as picking blackberries at the family farm, going to county fairs and various activites with her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her late sister, Rosalie Fields, as well as her nephew Randall Fields, and niece Teresa O'Callaghan.
Her legacy of loyalty, kindness, and organizational prowess is etched in the hearts of those she touched throughout her beautiful journey. Visitation will be held on June 17, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of funeral service beginning at 11 AM at Hodapp Funeral Home in West Chester, Ohio
Wanda Smith will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will forever remain within the cherished memories shared by family, friends, and colleagues who had the privilege of knowing her.
