Zachary Daniel McMullen, a new police officer and cherished member of his community, passed away on June 14, 2026, in West Chester, Ohio. Born on July 18, 2004, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Zach’s life, though tragically brief, was marked by a profound commitment to service, deep family bonds, and a warm spirit that touched all who knew him.
Zach's journey began in Cincinnati and took shape through his education at Lakota East and Butler Tech, culminating with an associate degree in criminal justice from Owens Community College. His passion for protecting and serving others was evident early on, leading him to begin his career as a police officer in September 2025 with the West Chester Township Police Department. His dedication extended beyond civilian service; Zach also served his country honorably as a Private First Class in the Army National Guard, having completed rigorous training at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Known for his kind and caring nature, Zach never met a stranger. His love for baseball, country music, history, and close friendships enriched his life and those around him. He forged lasting connections through his involvement in baseball during high school and college and was an active participant in the Young Adults group at Crossroads, where his enthusiasm and personable demeanor were well appreciated.
Zach is survived by his loving parents, Dan and Tara McMullen (Mangold); his sister Maggie McMullen and her fiance Preston Dorsey; his brother Matthew McMullen; his grandmother Vicki Mangold and dog Arrow. He is also remembered fondly by his aunt Lori Staggs (Bill Staggs) uncle Doug Mangold (Shannon), and cousins Kelsey, Carson, and Caite. He is cherished by countless friends, great uncles and aunts, cousins,colleagues, and brothers of serivce. These family members join together in mourning the loss of a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, and cousin.
He was preceded in death by his brother Joshua McMullen; great grandmother Vivian Berryman (GG);his grandparents John Mangold, James and Peggy McMullen; uncle Tim McMullen and uncle Patrick McMullen; and aunt Ann-Beth McMullen. Their memories remain integral to his enduring legacy.
Visitation will be held on June 18, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hodapp Funeral Homes in Liberty Township, Ohio, located at 6410 Cincinnati Dayton Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on June 19, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish in Liberty Township, 5720 Hamilton Mason Road, Ohio.
Zachary Daniel McMullen will be remembered for his genuine heart, his devotion to duty, and the joyful imprint he left on his community and loved ones. His life, characterized by kindness and service, stands as a testament to the profound impact one individual can have in their time among us.
