Zain Marvin Simmons, 24, passed away on June 30, 2026.
As a loving brother, son, and friend, Zain’s passing is one that affects us all.
Born in Cincinnati, Zain spent his childhood in Monroe, Ohio. His early interests included math, science, video games, chess, and the company of his friends and family.
Zain excelled academically, enrolling in math and science classes above his grade level. Zain enjoyed the school science fair, where he received first place for a project about gravity.
Beginning in middle school, Zain took up an interest in cross country and track. Zain’s passion for running continued all throughout high school. During his senior year, Zain also competed in swimming, making him a three-sport varsity letterman for Monroe High School.
Zain graduated from Monroe in 2020 at a “drive-through” graduation ceremony during the COVID-19 pandemic.
After high school, Zain enlisted in the U.S. Navy, attending the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command (NNPTC) near Charleston, South Carolina. Zain consistently neared the top of his class, and he volunteered to help lead fellow midshipmen pass their required physical testing.
Around this time, Zain’s mental health struggled. Shortly after graduation from the NNPTC, Zain received a General Discharge under Honorable Conditions.
Following his service, Zain moved back to Ohio and worked as an electromechanical technician. In 2025, Zain accepted a job at Amazon, working in data center engineering operations in Columbus, Ohio.
Zain is survived by his parents, Marvin and Shirin, and his two brothers, Taj and Nev.
