Cherished son of the late Gid and Harriett (nee Gettman) Daugherty. David resided in Mason with his family. He was a beloved art teacher at Mason Middle School, where he influenced the hearts, minds and futures of thousands of young students. His presence and influence on the community will never be forgotten. Dearest Mary Beth, Katie, Brant, and Adam,
Our hearts go out to you at your loss. Mary Beth, we are hugging you now in love and sympathy. You are like a sister to me, Mary Beth — we always have the special bond as birthday buddies being born on the exact same day in the same year. And then, after graduating from high school together and going to college, David came into your life as “the special one” like Bob in my life, and the four of us got along famously. We were bridesmaids for each other – wonderful and beautiful events for all of us. You and David brought our wedding album to us in New York so my parents didn’t have to mail it to us! No matter the time and distance, we always got together when we could: in Youngstown over Thanksgiving, your visiting us in Poughkeepsie, our visiting you in Ohio. We just picked up where we left off and always got caught up.
We will miss David.
With all our love, Lynne and Bob

I was very saddened to hear of Dave’s passing. I know we haven’t kept in touch but between my mother and sister I have been kept informed. Thirty six years Dave gave me a painting that I have proudly displayed partly because it had my last name on it. But more importantly because he took the time to do something nice for me. That’s how I will always remember him, a person who gave of himself unconditionally. My thoughts and prayers to you and the children.
Dear Mary Beth and family,
I was very sad to hear of David’s passing. I will always smile when I think of him and miss him teasing me again as he did every time I saw him. I would like to be at his funeral but will be there in spirit. You will all be in my prayers now and in the future. Love, Beth Ann
I am Ada M. Zander’s granddaughter, Pamela Zander Owen’s daughter Jessica. I didn’t know David very well but remember him from family reunions as being a kind-hearted person, and extremely caring and considerate. Your family is in my prayers. May he rest in peace and may God bless you in this time of devastation, he will be missed.
Love, Jessica Owen xoxoxo
David was a very special cousin to me. He was a warm and caring person who always had a way of lifting my spirits and giving me encouragement. His positive attitude and big smile(I could even “see” it over the phone or in his e-mails!) will be missed!
You will be in our thoughts and prayers Mary Beth, Adam, Brant, and Katie.
It’s so devastating to hear of a death of someone who has given me so much while I haven’t returned anything yet.
David and Mary Beth were my host parents when I was a high school student. I’m sure I was selfish and hard to take care of, but they loved me as if I were their own daughter. As a mother, I thank them more than ever, but I’ve failed to express my gratitude.
Dad, it’s awful that I can do nothing for you but pray, but I can’t help praying for your most peaceful life in heaven. I keep loving you.
Dear Mary Beth and family ,
We are keeping you in our prayers and sending our heartfelt sympathies to you at this difficult time of loss.

David Daugherty was an outstanding art teacher…a cut above most educators. One only had to see the interactions with his students to know that he loved what he did.
My son and daughter both thrived in Mr. Daugherty’s class at Mason Middle School and the lessons they learned from him will last a lifetime.
The three of us would like David’s family to know that he touched our lives in a very special way.
