David Paul Topp

David Paul Topp, 81, of Mason, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at West Chester Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born February 3, 1938, in Wheeling, WV, son of the late Ronald and Edyth Topp. He graduated from Linsly Military Institute, where he excelled in sports and music.  He attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. Following his graduation, he married Mary Carter (“Tippy”), his high school sweetheart. They were married for 51 years until her passing in 2011.

During his 20-year career as a naval officer, he also earned a Master of Science in International Affairs from George Washington University. Upon retirement from the Navy, he returned to Wheeling where he established a successful small business.   In retirement, he enjoyed renovating his boyhood home.  Among his many interests were playing the piano, wood-working, clock repair, and refinishing antique furniture.

He is pre-deceased by his parents, brother, Ronald Topp and sister-in-law Barbara; and his brother Charles Topp.

He is survived by his son, David A. Topp, and his wife Carol, of Cincinnati; daughter Katherine E. Topp, of Shelton, WA; two granddaughters, Emily and Sarah Topp; sisters-in-law Jeri Topp, of Charleston, WV, Jeanne Cater of Wheeling, WV and Ruth Lewis of Birmingham, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Monday, November 18, at 10:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at the Christian Village at Mason at 411 Western Row Rd. in Mason, Ohio, with Tom Moll, Senior Chaplain, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the Christian Benevolent Association/Compassionate Care Fund, 411 Western Row Rd., Mason, OH, 45040.
