Fayetta Herrin

Fayetta Herrin passed away on July 23, 2022 after a battle with dementia. Fayetta was born to Polly and Plimpton Hatter on December 21, 1935, in the small town of Argyle, Kentucky. Fayetta was predeceased by her siblings, Leon Hatter and Charolet Yancey. She is survived by her husband, Golden, two daughters, Nancy (Martin) Schaefer and Kathy (John) Huffman, two grandchildren, Madilyn Majors and Camden Majors.

 

Fayetta and Golden married on November 7, 1959, and celebrated 62 years of marriage. They spent the first years of their marriage traveling for Golden’s work and then settled in the Mt. Healthy area, later moving to West Chester, and then to Lebanon. Fayetta started teaching piano soon after they married and continued to teach piano for more than thirty years. She was an active member of area piano teacher organizations, encouraged her students to participate in regional competitions, and held recitals for her students every year. Fayetta started playing piano and organ for her church many years before she and Golden married and continued to be an active part of the music program and church pianist at the First Baptist Church of Mason until a few years ago. Fayetta played for many different church groups and events, and especially enjoyed her years as the pianist for the quartet, “B4 the Throne”, and performed as their accompanist on their CD.  She later released a CD of her own with some of her favorite piano pieces.

 

Fayetta was also known for her other talents of baking and sewing. Family gatherings frequently had a dessert table just to hold the selections of cookies, cakes, and pies that Fayetta would create. Many cake creations are immortalized in family scrapbooks, including the Easter rabbit that no one would ever cut, and the Star Trek spacecraft. She honored special requests and even made secret stashes of cookies to give people at Christmas and Easter so they would not have to share their favorites.  Her sewing talents started with making clothes for Nancy and Kathy and then later making many fleece blanket jackets to keep friends and family warm.  Her final big project was making a t-shirt blanket for Madi to commemorate her high school band career.

 

Visitation and funeral will be held at Liberty Heights Mason Campus (formerly FBC Mason), 735 Reading Rd., Mason, OH 45040 on July 28, 2022.  Visitation will take place from 11:30 until time of funeral service beginning at 12:30. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made by check to Queen City Hospice, 4605 Duke Dr., Suite 220, Mason, OH 45040.  Checks can be made out to Queen City Hospice, or The Hope Foundation with "In Memory of Fayetta Herrin" in the memo.
