Joan E. Franz

August 1, 1930 — October 10, 2021

Joan Eileen Franz, 91, passed away on October 10th surrounded by loved ones. She is preceded in death by her husband John Laight Franz and her son John Chester Franz. She is survived by her son Dr. Robert Louis Franz and his wife Sue Franz; her grandchildren Robert Eric (Emma) Franz and Dr. Heidi Sue (Xander) Reynolds; her precious great-grand children Calvin and Asa Franz; and her nieces Joan (Steve) Natoli, Carol (Paul) Gibson, and Paula (Don) Luepnitz.

Joan was born August 1st 1930 to her late parents Chester and Helen Floto in Wheeling, WV. She was raised in Wheeling with her older sister Esther Romanoski. She was graduated from Warwood High School in 1948. She was graduated from West Liberty State College with a Bachelor of Arts and by West Virginia University with Masters of Arts degree. Joan was a beloved teacher at Warwood Grade School for 30 years. She was an active WVU alumni and loved WVU sports. After Joan retired from teaching, she moved to West Chester, Ohio to be close to her son and his family. There she became an active member of West Chester Presbyterian Church. Through retirement she enjoyed local and international travel, golfing, playing bridge and most importantly spending time with her family. Joan was a social butterfly who always enjoyed going out on an adventure. Her grandkids used to joke that Nana (Joan) had a better social life than they did. She loved going to Reds games, going out on the town with friends, or even taking a spur of the moment weekend trip to West Virginia. We will miss her playful personality and her kind and generous heart. She truly knew how to love well.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at West Chester Presbyterian Church, 8930 Cincinnati Dayton Rd, West Chester Township, OH 45069, on Saturday October 23rd, 2021 with Pastor Tyler Pettigrew presiding. Visitation begins at 10:30am, the service will start at 11 am with luncheon to follow.

She will be buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling, WV with a graveside service on Friday, November 5th at 10 AM, starting at the Greenwood Cemetery chapel and ending at the gravesite.
