Mark Wayne Shafer

November 6, 1965 — May 13, 2022

Beloved husband of Sheila Shafer (nee Dumont) for 32 years. Loving father of Jennifer (Paul) Beeson and Andrew Shafer. Dear son of Mary Shafer and the late Roger Shafer. Caring brother of Jeff Shafer.

Mark was originally from Elgin, IL, but graduated from Kickapoo High School in Springfield, MO. He then went on to graduate college from the United States Air Force Academy and proudly served 10 years in the United States Air Force working with the A10 Warthog and the C17 Globemaster.  After a short year with GE Medical Systems, Mark moved to GE Aviation, where he spent the past 23 years.

Mark made the most of life, from staying active through golf, volleyball and bowling to trying all the different breweries Cincinnati has to offer. He maintained his fascination with planes from childhood through his adult life, never missing a flyby at a ball game. He enjoyed attending sporting events and supporting his hometown Cincinnati teams, but he maintained his loyalty to his original Chicago roots, including always being on the lookout for authentic Chicago dogs and Italian beef sandwiches. As a grilling master, he was the creator of Shafer’s Super Secret Savory Seasoning (S5), a family favorite. Mark was also a phenomenal trivia whiz, retaining and recalling enough random facts to win a game all on his own. While he accomplished a lot in his life, his greatest joy was his family, which was evident in the endless array of nicknames, the many years of coaching, and the meticulously planned family vacations.
