Pollyanna Sedziol

April 10, 1935 — February 23, 2021

Pollyanna Sedziol passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at home. Born in Grand Junction, CO on April 10, 1935, she was the beloved oldest daughter of Ethelyn Louise (Hurd) and Sidney Bowman Rogers.  At the age of five, Polly had polio. She spent time in an iron lung and had to learn how to walk again. She dealt with the side effects of polio for the rest of her life. Due to Polly’s polio, her parents had their four other children vaccinated as soon as the polio vaccines came out. After several moves, the Rogers family settled in Portsmouth, OH where she finished her senior year in high school and met Roland Samuel Sedziol. After high school, Polly attended Bethesda School of Nursing in Cincinnati. She and Roland married on June 1, 1956 in Portsmouth and Polly completed her nursing course later that summer. Polly and Roland lived in Cincinnati where they had five children: Ellen Elizabeth, Roland Sidney (Julie); John Marvin (Debbie); Kenneth Samuel (Rita); and Emilie. There are nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Polly worked as a nurse at several Cincinnati hospitals and ended her career as patient representative at St. Francis St. George Hospital. She retired in 2001. Polly and Roland had plans to travel but those plans ended when Roland died on March 17, 2003. Polly and Roland were very active in their church and for several years ran a Used Book Depository that sent Bibles and religious materials all over the world. In 2020 Polly was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and that was the cause of her death. Polly will be missed by family and friends, including her two surviving siblings, Ruby Rogers and John Rogers. There will not be a service. The family request memorials gifts be sent to the Parkinson’s Foundation, the American Cancer Society or the American Baptist World Mission Offering. In her memory the family asks that friends and relatives get the Covid Vaccine. When a date for getting together to remember Polly is set the information will be added to Hodapp’s web site.
