Herman, Sandra Jean

Loving mother of Linda M Austin (Kenneth), and the late Thomas R Farrel. Treasured grandmother of Virginia Lubankski Engwall, Lynsie (Grant) O’Dell, Gabrielle Nunez, Colton (Allison) Farrel, and Adam Nunez. Dear great grandmother of Sawyer-Jo Farrel and Will O’Dell. Most of all, Sandy enjoyed spending time with her family and her faithful dogs Lily and Dominick. She loved reading crime novels and murder mysteries. As a foodie, she also had a sweet tooth like her father and enjoyed a good piece of chocolate!  Sandy enjoyed camping, horseback & trail riding, and spending time with friends around a campfire in her youth. Halloween was her favorite holiday and Sandy loved her collection of decorative witches.

Professionally, Sandra earned her Educational Doctorate from Vanderbilt University in Educational Leadership. She taught at Miami University, Oxford Ohio, in the education department. Sandra began her career as a speech and language pathologist with her Bachelor of Science and Master of Special Education degrees from Nazareth College in Rochester, New York.  During her life-long career as a professional educator, Sandra served as both an elementary school principal and district-level administrator.

Dear Barbara, Tom & family, I am sorry to learn of the passing of Sandy. We were neighbors on Ashbourne growing up. And, although we were not particularly close as kids and then in HS, I do remember playing games in her yard and the street in front of your house. I have followed her a bit on Facebook over the years and have been very impressed with her accomplishments. She must have touched the lives of many young people throughout her career and I know that they must have benefitted from it. My sincere condolences to you. Steve Gaudioso, BHS '63

My sincere condolences to Sandy's family. She was an Ashbourne Rd neighbor and a Brighton High School classmate. I remember her as a quiet, confident student and someone who was kind to others.

This morning I was thinking of calling Sandy, it had been so long, and then tonight reading her obituary! I'm from Perry, NY & Sandy boarded her horse, Kelly at our farm, hence the beginning of our friendship. I Admired her intelligence & humor & many great conversations. I'm so sorry for your loss of a truly wonderful woman!
