William Edward Heil

Dr. William Edward Heil, beloved husband of 60 years to the late Dorathy J. Heil. Cherished father of Steven (Susan) Heil, Barbara Ferguson and David Heil. Dear grandfather of Hannah and Rachel Heil, Michael G. and W. Chase Ferguson, Amanda (John) Hodapp and Dr. Jason William Heil. Passed away peacefully on June 6, 2010 at his home following a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was the loving son of Jeanette and William C. Heil and a long time resident of Western Hills, graduating from WHHS class of 1942. William entered military service as a Navy Corpsman with Sixth Marine Division taking him to Okinawa and Guadalcanal 12/12/1942 – 03/18/1946. This experience inspired him to study medicine, graduating from UC College of Medicine class of 1952. There he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Dr. Heil practiced medicine in Western Hills on Glenway Ave. for 44 years; he also served on the St. Francis/St. George staff and was briefly employed at U.C. Medical center. “Dad was truly loved by his patients and I know he returned their affection,” said daughter Barb of Hyde Park, “He earned their admiration and respect by taking time to explain medical circumstances and making house calls.” Son David of Cincinnati said, “Dad was one of the old school family doctors that provided total care, he delivered many babies.” Dr. Heil also enjoyed gardening and horticulture; he owned and maintained 112 acres of woodland in Dearborn County Indiana where he planted many different species of trees. Said son Steven of Hamilton, “It’s tragic he was stricken with this disease within his first year of retirement.” His love for work and hobbies were exceeded only by his love and generosity for his family, children and grandchildren. His wife of 60 years, Dorathy, died in 2008. The exemplary life that Dr. William Heil lived will be forgotten by few and missed by many. Visitation at the Hodapp Funeral Home, 6041 Hamilton Ave., College Hill, Friday from 10:30 am until funeral service at 11 am.
